We also found that they treat gallbladder issues and gallstones in their general surgery center. From what we’ve heard, their team of surgeons is well-equipped to accommodate patients quickly, considering these cases can turn into surgical emergencies.

Another thoughtful touch is their initiative to provide a translator. Foreign or non-Thai patients mentioned how a translator assisted them in making sure they understood everything—and you wouldn’t want to miss anything, especially with surgery.

Vejthani Hospital stands out for its approach to diagnosing and treating digestive issues, like problems with the gallbladder, esophagus, stomach, intestines, and more. These fall under the care of their Gastroenterology and Hepatology Center.

On that note, this center has about 17 doctors: around 4 surgeons and 13 specialists in internal medicine for Gastroenterology and Hepatology. They all work together and contribute their experience managing the gastrointestinal tract and liver health.

Diagnosis and tests are also one of their strong suits. For instance, the facilities and technology, such as their Ultrasonography and ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography), help them check and pinpoint gallstones or other complications.

Speaking of facilities—the patients we chatted with were happy with how modern and clean their facilities are and how it gave them confidence in the hospital’s care.

The downside? We’ve noted some of the frustrations patients shared regarding long wait times, especially with foreigners who had to wait for the international department to assist them.

Nonetheless, Vejthani Hospital’s facilities and procedures are worth considering.

What caught our attention with Samitivej Hospital is that they have the capacity and facilities to perform both surgical and nonsurgical treatments for gallstones. 

While surgery is often the go-to option, some patients—primarily those with cholesterol gallstones or other health concerns—might benefit from nonsurgical treatments like endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP).

And if you’re going with the surgical route (laparoscopic cholecystectomy), Samitivej Hospital has something up its sleeves. They use 3D-4K technology that helps surgeons see all the details required to perform their surgery safely and efficiently.

We also have to give props to the hospital’s staff and team for assisting with other services—it beats getting your urinalysis results and insurance papers mixed up. For instance, they even help you setup an online consultation with a doctor to get a second opinion.

However, we’re a bit concerned after hearing some reports of long wait times and delays; some even had to wait for more than 2 hours despite having an appointment.

On the bright side, their bedside manner and post-op care are well-regarded by their patients, which is a big plus.

The highlight of Bangkok Hospital is that they have an Enhanced Recovery after Surgery Program or ERAS Program, wherein they take a patient-centered approach with a multidisciplinary team that creates tailored pathways for surgery. 

Their goal is to reduce surgical stress, help you get moving sooner, get you back to eating normally, and manage pain or discomfort effectively. And to be frank, it’ll cut down overall costs if you don’t stay long.

We’re also impressed by their impressive track record of successful clinical outcomes of laparoscopic cholecystectomy. At the surgery center, 100% of patients were walking within 4-6 hours after the operation and with zero post-op infections—a solid sign of competence.

But we do feel a bit iffy after hearing some complaints about their online chat support, with some patients mentioning it can be slow or unclear at times. Even so, Bangkok Hospital is a reliable choice for your gallstone issues.
