Personally, I found the island oozing with adventure, especially with Koh Phangan and Koh Tao nearby. Even better, I had the time of my life on my honeymoon there years ago with just one caveat: I got seasick (due perhaps to too much alcohol). 

Lucky for you, I have everything on record so I can show you why Koh Samui is the ultimate island getaway for two you’ve always dreamed of and why there may not be a better place to have your honeymoon than in Thailand’s second-biggest island. Read on.

Explore the Secret Buddha Garden

To add to the excitement, you can keep the dinner a secret from your partner until the last minute. Dinner’s as romantic as you want it to be with candlelight and a sala decorated with beautiful flowers so be ready to put it all in video. 

Ask around to save on your precious dollars. Some service operators will arrange the dinner for free and all you have to do is pay for the food.

Explore Ang Thong Marine National Park

Lamai Viewpoint is a restaurant so you can enjoy a bite or drink your fave cup of coffee there. Also, top it all up with their zipline adventure allowing you to glide from one mountain to another several meters above sea level. 

Visit Na Muang Waterfalls

Na Muang Waterfalls is Koh Samui telling you that there’s more to the island than its powdery white beaches. The enchanting beauty consists of two cascades that gather a pool of water at their feet, just the perfect area to cool any human from the scorching heat. 

The waterfalls with all the beauty of nature surrounding them are an ideal spot to snap a photo as a couple. Even better, you can spend some time bathing in the cool waters of Na Muang and create wonderful memories together. 

What’s more, there’s no need to worry about locating Na Muang Waterfalls as it’s an easy find. You will have to do a few meters of walking though as it’s right in the middle of Lamai and Nathon Beach just off Route 4169, the highway. 

Pro Tip: 

As much as possible, make sure you wear waterproof non-skid shoes as the path to the waterfalls is not only steep but also slippery. Though you can make the most of the waterfalls for free, finding food to eat is another story altogether. 

Locals may offer you a guided tour of the area. Still, be wary as shady individuals may take advantage of the situation and charge a hefty fee.

Take a Thai Cooking Class for Couples

Taking Thai cooking classes may sound ridiculous but truth be told it’s a great way to strengthen your bond as a couple. Plus, it’s a time-tested method to fill your stomach with good food (Thai food can be brutally delicious). 

Cooking together can improve your communication skills as a couple, not to mention harnessing your ability to get along and laugh at one another. The best part is there are tons of cooking classes you can choose from in Koh Samui. 

For better bonding, you can choose good-for-two private Thai cooking lessons. That way you can help each other master the craft and cook your way to a better union later in life once you’ve learned the ropes of Thai cooking.

Pro Tip: 

Deciding on which cooking class to enroll too can be a cumbersome process so make sure you look into the length of time the whole cooking class will take. Another key factor is the chef who will take you in. 

A good way to know if you’re a great fit is to pay the class a visit. Doing so will allow you to feel the overall vibe of the class and determine if it’s worth your time as a couple. 

Discover Fisherman’s Village Night Market

For your discerning palates, there’s just so much you can pounce on, from freshly caught seafood to mouthwatering local favorite dishes (pad Thai, crickets) and fruits. If not enough, handicrafts from all over the region can be had at bargain prices. 

Though this night market isn’t open daily, you’ll love the shopping experience when it does (Friday nights). It would seem that you and your partner are transported to another planet as live music and dance performances entertain you while you shop.

Be ready to haggle prices since a night market isn’t anything like a department store. A good way to start is by offering a price significantly lower than the seller’s asking price (about 30 to 40%). 

Smile and don’t force the issue though. It’s normal for sellers to stick with their advertised price but once you don’t reach an agreement, be prepared to walk away to get the best offer. 

Capture the sunset together at Grandmother Rock

Well, folks, your honeymoon may not be complete if you forego seeing Hin Ta and Hin Yai rock formations, aptly called Grandfather and Grandmother Rocks. Even better, you can laze around the afternoon there and opt to capture the sunset. 

There are a lot of mystery stories surrounding these rock formations, with many about love affairs. But what makes these giant rocks a certified tourist attraction is their funny shapes resembling male and female genitalia—truly a fitting honeymoon destination!

Plus, the rock formations are easy to find as they’re just a walking distance (2 km) from Lamai Beach. 

Pro Tip: 

If you visit the place on a motorbike, you are likely to be charged a token, about 20 Baht. There are shops nearby if you’re longing for memorabilia but you could also choose to bring a stone from the area to remember the place by. 

Dance the night away at the Full Moon Party

Instead of just enjoying the full moon, why not pull an all-nighter and join the crowd in a dance of revelry? Yes, the Koh Samui Full Moon Party could be just the exclamation point you need to wrap up your honeymoon on Thailand’s second-largest island. 

Then, you and your partner will experience live shows like never before, from fire rope dancing to all sorts of music genres playing on multiple stages. All done under the light of the full moon shining on high as the Andaman Sea stands witness.

All the partying and dancing should make the night as unforgettable as you want it. Note, however, that as the offshoot of the Koh Phangan Full Moon Parties which started in the 80s, a Koh Samui Full Moon Party happens only once a month. 

Pro Tip: 

Wearing neon body paint can be a brilliant way to stand out in the crowd. Be wary about your valuables, and bring just an ample amount of cash while partying. It’s better to safe than sorry.
